Thomas F. “Buddy” Conley, of Pepperell, died in the same town in which he was born, on August 17, 2023.
Bud was born in Pepperell in a house that still stands on Townsend Street and moved to West Groton with the love of his life who agreed to date him only after his months of persistence. Pauline Souther and Bud were married in 1951 before Bud went to Germany.
Bud served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and was sent to Germany with the 28th Infantry Division.
When Bud returned to the United States he worked for the LeatherBoard Company until it’s closing and in 1978 he joined the Town of Groton Highway Department where worked until 1998. He was honored with a Town of Groton Proclamation proclaiming October 21st as Thomas F. Conley Day. Bud was proud of his service to his town, and enjoyed sharing anecdotes about his days there with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Together Bud and Pauline raised 5 children in their house in West Groton and they were blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren with whom Bud loved to spend his time - usually talking about how many deer or turkeys they had last seen.
Bud was an avid fisherman and hunter all of his life. If you ever had the pleasure of a drive with him around town, he could let you know exactly all the places he successfully got a deer or how many there were typically in a specific area - he knew all the best spots throughout Groton and Pepperell.
Bud is survived by 2 brothers, 4 children, 9 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.
Bud was a kind, dedicated person who enjoyed the company of others. He will be missed.
