"Grandma To Everyone"
Theresa Mary (Wingfield) Montello, 91, passed away Thursday January 7, 2021 after fighting COVID-19.
Theresa was born in Boston, MA on May 29, 1929 daughter of the late Mary (Halfkenny) and William Wingfield Sr. She grew up in Dorchester and Roxbury and found her way to Groton in the mid-1960’s where she lived until she recently relocated to an assisted living residence in Ayer, MA.
Theresa was the essence of smiles, hugs and family. She loved her family more than anything in the world and was always genuinely happy to simply be around them. Theresa also enjoyed playing scrabble, dice, trivia, cards, traveling, eating cookies and ice cream, and gambling in Las Vegas. Recently, she enjoyed seeing trees, reading everything, and eating dinner with others. Anyone she ever met, she told she collected “HUGS” and would then give them one, sometimes three in a row. She loved nothing more than to be around the people she loved most in the world: her family. Always radiating happiness and joy, she was consistently smiling, laughing and speaking riddles. She was also always had a song in her heart or on her lips. Everyone’s Grandma will truly be missed by all who ever met her.
She is survived by six children: Gerard Bennett and his wife Michaelyn of South Pasadena, CA; the late Dennis Bennett and his wife Mia of Groton, MA; Debra (Bennett) Monat and her husband, Phil of Townsend, MA; David Bennett of Shirley, MA; Tony Bennett and his wife Rachel of Shirley, MA; and Mary (Montello) Cullinan and her husband Kevin of Shirley, MA. She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She joins in heaven her parents, siblings Winifred (Wingfield) Govan, William P. Wingfield Jr., Edwin Wingfield and Margorie (Wingfield) Lee and her son Dennis Bennett of Groton.
