Sadly, our beloved, Sherill Ann Johnson (Sheri Allen) of Groton, MA, passed away on December 31st, 2024. She was known for her warmth, crazy sense of humor, generosity, kindness and undeniably loving spirit she brought into this world.
She was an adorable Christmas Eve baby, and though she liked her name, she said if she were to have a different one, she would have liked a Christmas name like Noel or Bella Eve.
Growing up her family moved a lot, she was born in Boston, moved to Dedham and ultimately graduated from South River High School in New Jersey. As a teenager she was always the “new kid” in school, but she was beautiful, kind, sweet, smart and outgoing which afforded her the ability to make friends easily and quickly become popular.
She started driving her parents’ blue 58 Chevy at 15 to drive her mother (who didn’t drive) to work and then go home to help care for her younger siblings…but not always. Though she was a responsible kid, she was also wild, free spirited and had a zest for life. She loved music and driving fast cars or just driving fast in general, so sometimes she would take off and race her friends. Two of her favorite cars were a 57 Corvette and a red convertible T-Bird (or with T-tops) though she never owned either. She did, however, have a 1966 Chevy Impala Super Sport that she would race around in, and she loved it.
After graduation Sheri worked at Raytheon where she met one of her best friends, she then moved into hospitality and worked with her sister for many years, she was very good at her job, and everyone just adored her. She ultimately went on to get her real estate license and was very proud to become a realtor, she did that for years before she was forced to retire due to a stroke in her 50’s. Yet, even amongst the challenges life brought her way, Sheri never wavered in her compassion for others. She continued to support her family and extend a helping hand to anyone in need. As a single mother, it wasn’t easy, but she always worked hard to be sure her children had everything they needed. One of her most significant accomplishments was having her three children, whom she held as her pride and joy. She said she found more joy once she had children but also sadness as when her kids hurt, she hurt.
Sheri enjoyed traveling with family and friends, whether to Las Vegas, California (where she was invited by the “Cars” into their recording studio while they recorded an album, she thought that was pretty cool), Canada, Florida, Alabama, Missouri, Wisconsin, Texas, Cape Cod, trips to Foxwoods and many other places, she was always happy to come back to the comfort of her home.
When life forced her to slow down, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved Chihuahua, Harry, spending time with her kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews, going out to eat, shopping, playing dice, boggle, uno, rummy, really anything she could to spend time with family and friends, watching her soap operas and tending to her plants.
Sheri was a big personality, she had an impact on each person she interacted with. She was empathetic, forgiving, loving, funny and kind. She was a beautiful soul who would greet you with hugs, kisses and "I love" you every time you saw her. If you were down, she would do her best to cheer you up and help however she could. She loved her family and friends with everything she had, you always walked away from her feeling loved.
Sheri will be lovingly remembered and missed terribly by her beloved children, Scott Cloutier, Kelly Cloutier-Powers and Kristi McIntyre, her grandchildren, Samantha Bruso and Jacob LeMasurier, brothers, Lance Allen & Richard Allen, sister, Liane Allen-Kassin and her many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is joined in rest by her mother, Bertha Allen Foley, stepfather, Micheal Foley, father, William Allen, brother, William F. Allen, grandchildren, Billy Cloutier and Sarah McIntyre along with many other loved ones throughout her life. Sheri was a huge part of our lives and with a hefty family tree and a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Sheri’s loss is deeply felt by all those who knew and loved her. She will be missed every single day, and her memory will continue to live on through us and in those whose lives she touched.
As they say, we do not remember days, we remember moments, and those moments will live in our hearts forever.
