Robert H. Hebb Sr., 87, of Ayer, died peacefully on Wednesday July 1, 2015, at Apple Valley Continuing Care Center in Ayer after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Haverhill, MA, on November 25, 1927, and lived most of his life in Ayer. He served our country in the US Navy and was a plankman on the destroyer USS William R. Rush. After his Naval Service during WWII he later graduated from the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston. He worked as a salesman for the former Boyertown Casket Co., and as a funeral director for many years until his retirement.
He enjoyed travelling, riding his rail car and spending time with his family and friends.
He was an active lifetime member of the Ayer Gun and Sportsman's Club, where he selflessly dedicated his time to Sunday morning breakfasts held to raise money for the children's Christmas party and other children's events.
He worked part time driving a truck for the family business, Nashoba Valley Express in Ayer, and also donated his time to the Annual Loaves and Fishes toy drive each Christmas.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Grenier) Hebb, a son, Robert H. Hebb, Jr. and daughter-in-law Kathleen of Ayer, a daughter, Nancy Babiarz and son-in-law Chester of Rocky Hill, CT., a grandson, Thomas Babiarz of Manchester, NH, and friend Amanda Wood, a granddaughter, Laura Dusablon and husband Benoit of Trois Rivieres, Canada, a granddaughter Stephanie Hebb of Ayer, and friend Nicholas Whitaker and two great grandchildren, Jayden and Mayva Dusablon. He is survived by a brother James Seymour and wife, Lucinda of Merrimac, MA,. and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Jackson.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends as everyone who knew him loved him.
