Raymond Walsh, of Lunenburg, MA, passed away on March 18th at the Veterans Medical Center in West Roxbury, MA. He was 65.
Ray was born on Lockbourne AFB, in Columbus, Ohio to Joseph and Blanche Walsh. His father was a member of the United States Air Force and Ray grew up and attended high school in various military bases throughout Europe and the United States.
He was a member of the Air Force himself from May of 1972 to May of 1976, after which he discovered a love for the outdoors, adventuring to northern Canada and various other places around the United States.
He then settled in Brighton, MA, where he found a passion in driving a taxi, a career that would span nearly 40 years. He started his own company, and, throughout the years, came to own several cabs. A natural people person and jokester, it was a job he loved and he had more stories than he could tell in a lifetime.
In 1988, Ray married the girl of his dreams, Susan Jo Walsh (Kearns) with whom he adopted four loving children and settled in Lunenburg in 1997, where he remained until his passing. His wife Susan sadly passed away in 2012.
An avid historian, especially military history, he could tell anyone anything about the Civil War or World War II. He would also never turn down an opportunity to talk politics with anyone who would listen. He seemed to know a little bit about everything and was always up for a conversation.
He leaves his four children, Bobby, 27, and Krista, 24, of Lunenburg, and Alisa, 26, of Worcester, and Matthew, 24, of Fitchburg. He also leaves his mother, Blanche, of St. Louis, MO, and his beloved granddaughter Evelynn, daughter of Krista.
His loving memory will be preserved by his family and by his vast circle of friends.
Visiting hours for Ray will be held from 4-7 PM at the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St. Pepperell, MA on Sunday, March 25. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM at St. Benedict Abbey, 252 Still River Rd. Harvard, MA. Following, a graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 1 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St. Winchendon, MA 01475.
