Paul Herbert Slaybaugh, of Nashua, NH, formerly of Somerville, MA, passed away on June 1, 2018 at age of 89.
Loving husband of the late Rose (Anastas) Slaybaugh. Devoted father of Lorraine Johnson of Billerica and her husband Paul and Maureen Bolger of Pepperell and her husband John. Proud grandfather of Amy Collins of Shrewsbury, Robyn Johnson of Billerica and Rachel Bolger of Pepperell. Beloved great-grandfather of Avery and Zachary Collins of Shrewsbury.
Paul was born in Abbotstown, PA on April 14, 1929 to George and Laura (Fleming) Slaybaugh, the fourth of six brothers and one sister. He is pre-deceased by his sister Virginia and brothers, George, William, Ben, and Harold. He is survived by his brother Ray of Littlestown, PA and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. After graduating from high school in Taneytown, MD in 1946, he joined the US Navy. Paul and Rose married in 1950 and settled in Somerville, MA. He worked for many years at Gillette as a steam engineer in their power plant and was later employed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton as a supervisor of Maintenance and Power Plant. In 2005, after retirement and after his beloved wife passed away, he moved to the Huntington Community in Nashua, NH. He was a member of the Free Masons in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Paul was a loving, caring man and will be sorely missed by all those who knew him.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday June 6th from 6-8 PM at the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main Street (Rte 113) Pepperell. Funeral service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery Chapel, 302 Elm Street, Everett at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 7th followed by burial at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MSPCA or St. George Cathedral in South Boston.
