Mary R. Wardwell

Mary R. Wardwell, age 89, of Pepperell, MA passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Life Care Center of Acton, MA after a brief illness. Mary was born on March 18, 1935 in Madawaska, ME to the late Henri and Julie (Chasse) Couture. She was a devoted mother to her only son, Allen Wardwell. 

Mary, or more lovingly known as “Nana”, was employed at Bemis Bag for 36 years and then later on worked at Alpine Grove Catering until she retired. In retirement, Nana became an avid knitter who enjoyed solving puzzles, going on shopping trips and spending time at the Pepperell Senior Center. She also looked forward to her yearly trip to the ocean for some fresh seafood with her son and daughter-in-law. She was always happy to share with anyone who would listen about her greatest joy in life: her six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Nana was always there to listen, send a birthday card with $2 tucked inside, or greet you with a warm hug. Most of all she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by the following siblings: Cecile Cyr, Henry Couture, Armand Couture, Eva Lacasse. She is survived by her son Allen (Carlene) Wardwell of New Ipswich, NH. Along with six grandchildren; Carmen (Mark) Maunu of La Center, WA, Carrie (Jacob) Traffie of New Ipswich, NH, Sonya (Dean) Hannu of Landrum, SC, Michelle (Matti) Saari of New Ipswich, NH, Jordan (Jacqueline) Wardwell of Landrum, SC, and Matthew (Shania) Wardwell of New Ipswich, NH and eighteen great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters; Bertha Michaud of Pepperell, MA and Lena Achey of Solon, ME.

Friends and family are invited to visitation and a service held at McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 PM with a reception to follow at Christian Fellowship Church, 821 Turnpike Road, New Ipswich, NH. Burial will be held at a later date in the Spring. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Albert Harris Center, 37 Nashua Rd., Pepperell, MA 01463.
