Margaret Ann (Glow) Strickland, age 88, a resident of Alpharetta, GA died peacefully on August 21, 2024 after a three-year struggle with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Margaret was born November 13, 1935 in Pepperell MA the daughter of Arthur and Margaret (Lorden) Glow. Margaret (Peggy Glow) was a 1953 graduate of Pepperell High School - Valedictorian and graduated from Fisher College in Boston in 1955.
Peg worked for General Electric in Lynn MA for several years and then transferred to GE headquarters in Manhattan where she was administrative assistant to one of the vice presidents. Peg later moved to Coral Gables FL in the mid-1960s and worked with the supervisor of maintenance for National Airlines in Miami. While working for National Airlines Peg took extensive advantage of the company’s liberal travel benefits, which included parents. Peg took Arthur and Margaret on many trips including vacations to England, France, Ireland, Mexico, Morocco, the Amazon River, and Machu Picchu. Peg later took her father on a tour of China after her mother passed away.
Peg moved to Stone Mountain GA in the late 1980s and resumed working for General Electric. During this period, she divorced and moved to Alpharetta. She was extremely proud of her new home which she purchased in 1994 and took great pride in its landscaping. Peg graciously hosted her brother Jack, his wife Barbara and their daughter Sarah for 10 days so they could attend many events at the 1996 summer Olympics. Peg retired from GE in 1995 and lived in Alpharetta, GA, for the last 30 years of her life. Peg had no children.
Peg was predeceased by her parents, Arthur E. Glow and Margaret (Lorden) of Pepperell. She is survived by her brother, Arthur E Glow Jr, his wife Joyce (Smith) of Morrisville NY, their four children and seven grandchildren. She is survived by her brother, John A Glow and his wife Barbara (Coakley) of Milford NH, their three children and seven grandchildren. Peg is survived by her aunt, Betsy Glow of Pepperell MA. The family would like to thank Aunt Betsy for her kindness to Peg. Peg really appreciated Aunt Betsy’s handwritten notes and cards, especially during her time in Memory Care.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the Director, Pereze Hylton and staff of the Life Guidance unit at Atria North Point Senior Living in Alpharetta GA. Their professional care, ability to keep Peg involved in activities and socializing with other residents was a very positive aspect of her later life. Peg was comfortable and happy at Atria.
A graveside service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery, 40 Heald St, Pepperell MA at 11 AM on Thursday, October 17, 2024.
