Kathleen Ann “Kathy” (Hutchinson) Thompson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025 at the age of 84. Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, she grew up in Arlington, MA.
Kathy graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing degree from Boston University School of Nursing. She was a dedicated nurse, working at Symmes Hospital in Arlington, MA before taking time off to raise her children in Woburn, MA. Later, she returned to work at New England Rehabilitation Center in Woburn where she touched the lives of countless people over the course of more than 20 years.
She is survived by her best friend and loving husband of more than 62 years, Edward Thompson. Together, they have 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Ellen and James Sickler of Amherst, NH, Eileen and Richard Duval of Vero Beach, FL, Julia and William Cahill of Pepperell, MA and Katherine and Marc Cannizaro of Pepperell, MA. In addition, she leaves behind her niece, Heidi Okerholm-Ovalle of West Palm Beach, FL and grandchildren, Shannon and Caleb Burrington, Ryan and Victoria Sickler, Brieonna Duval, Olivia Duval, Kristen Cannizaro, Kelly Cannizaro, Timothy Cahill and Daniel Cahill and 3 great-grandchildren, Emmitt and Evelyn Burrington and Lincoln Sickler.
Kathy/Mom/Grammy was the heart of our family, always there with a listening ear, a warm hug and a great meal. She loved gardening and jigsaw puzzles. The lake house in Maine is the place where her family came together. She loved texting with all the grandkids and hearing about their adventures when they called to give her all the details. If you ask her grandchildren, each one will tell you that they were “Grammy’s favorite” because she made them all feel that way.
Kathy was born on March 12, 1941, to the late Margaret (Lynch) and Bernard Hutchinson. She is preceded in death by her sisters Virginia Hutchinson and Rita Okerholm (Dr. Richard Okerholm) and sister-in-law, Mary Thompson.
Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, from 5-7pm at McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 10 am at Our Lady of Grace worshiping at St Joseph’s Church, 28 Tarbell St., Pepperell, MA, with private burial to follow.
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, CNAs, LPNs, case workers and all the staff at Emerson Hospital, Concord, MA for the care and support they showed to Kathy and all of our family during this time.
