John P. Lamont, 91, formerly of Pepperell passed away on Tuesday, January 31,2017 at the Apple Valley Center in Ayer. He was born on April 2, 1925 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Losing his father at the age of five and being the eldest of three children, John worked many jobs at a very early age to help his mother, Anna. Then August 12, 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy and became a gunner / radio operator stationed in the Pacific. After serving his country, he returned home to marry his love Mary (Ridarick) Lamont on September 20, 1947 at All Saints Catholic Church in Jersey City. Shortly after he became a proud and loving father, and later grandfather.
John worked 14 yrs for the chemical industry in Jersey City, and then 27 yrs as Head Custodian of Rutherford High School, a position & career that he truly enjoyed. John retired at age 62 and mostly enjoyed a simple life of retirement. He loved his Buick, taking care of his home & property at the Clark Retirement Park in Pepperell, and just being with Mary & the family. So church events, movies & dining out, card games with friends, and most of all "fun with the grandkids" was what made his life complete.
During his 66 years of marriage to Mary they resided for 34 yrs in Rutherford, NJ & St. Mary's Parish, then he retired and relocated in 1996 to Pepperell, MA for 16 years, and finally in May 2012, Nashoba Park Assisted Living in Ayer. February 9, 2014, Mary passed away, but John continued to be a very special friend to both residents & staff at Nashoba Park. Then September 2016, he needed additional care at the Apple Valley Center.
John is survived by his loving family, his son John J. Lamont of New York City, daughter Deborah Williams and husband David of Raynham, MA, three grandchildren Jessica (Williams) Wall and husband Timothy of W. Bridgewater, MA, Michael Williams and Kimberly Zapresko of Riverview, FL and Katherine (Williams) Sousa and husband Robert of Oxford, MA, a sister-in-law Doris Perscheid of Lakewood, NJ, and brother-in-law John Lopusnak, Toms River, NJ. He was also the brother of the late Franny O'Brien and Julie Ottens, and brother-in-law of the late Ann Lopusnak, Joseph & Camille Ridarick, William & Mary Ridarick, and Jack Perscheid.
