After a long and full life, Jean Viola (Romikitis) Publicover, age 86, a longtime resident of Medway and Ashland, MA passed away peacefully on April 8, 2023. Jean was born on November 21, 1936 in Natick, MA, the daughter of the late Jennie (Kamon) and Joseph Romikitis; she was the eldest of four children. Raised in Wayland, Jean graduated from Wayland High School in 1954 with a concentration in business and began her career with the Raytheon Company.
Jean married Joseph Publicover in 1956 and together they had six children in ten years. Those were busy years, and Jean loved being a full-time mother and ran her home like clockwork. She taught her children to read, write and do arithmetic before they entered school. Her culinary skills were superb, and no one ever left the table hungry.
When Jean resumed her career, she worked as a bookkeeper for Town Paint and Supply in Natick and then as an assistant to the CFO of TJX Corporation, also in Natick.
In retirement, Jean enjoyed the simple pleasures of reading, taking walks, going to the beach, eating out, and spending time with her family and friends. Her ten grandchildren have special memories of sleepovers at Grammy’s, sweet treats, and lots of fun and games.
In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her brother Joseph Romikitis. She is survived by her sisters Alice McKenzie and Janet King, as well as her six children, Jean Publicover and partner Ken Spitzer, Cheryl Dewees and husband Rob, Lisa Richard and husband Marc, Michele Hamilton and husband Todd, Michael Publicover and wife Katie, and Cynthia Berger. Jean was the proud Grammy of Arianne Richard, Ned and Luke Dewees, Zachary, Matthew and Samuel Hamilton, Isabella Publicover, Gabriela and Lucas van Veen and Jay Berger, and great grandmother to Ewan Peters.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 12th at 9 AM at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 West Hollis Street, Nashua. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua.
