James Nicholas Conway

James Nicholas “Jim” Conway, 87, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua on September 4, 2024. Mr. Conway was born on June 14, 1937 in Springfield, Massachusetts, son of the late James Nicholas and Charlotte (Allen) Conway.

Jim spent his early life in Melrose where he attended the local schools before enrolling at UMass Amherst, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 1959. Jim worked as a licensed professional engineer at a number of well-known companies including Stone and Webster and Burns and Roe. For the last 35 years, he was self-employed as the Principal of James Conway Engineering in Brookline, NH. His work as an engineer brought both Jim and his wife, Jane (Cunningham), to New Jersey, New York and California before settling in Pepperell, Massachusetts. Together they created a home, kept horses and enjoyed the rural lifestyle.

Jim was passionate about the shooting sports. He was a member of the Westford Sportsmen’s Club and Londonderry Fish & Game. He was an NRA Instructor and held a number of certifications. In addition to shooting, Jim loved sailing and skiing and, as a young adult, scuba diving. Those who knew him will remember him as a fun-loving, positive and happy-go-lucky guy.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Jim leaves behind his sister, Patricia A. Conway, and her husband, Terry Garrison, of Las Vegas, Nevada.

In accordance with Jim’s wishes, no formal services are planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one’s choosing.
