Gregory Andrew Kavanagh

Gregory A Kavanagh of Groton, MA, age 48, passed away peacefully at MGH in Boston on October 6th after suffering a heart attack October 2nd. Greg was born into a US Air Force Family to Dennis W (USAF Lt. Col retired) and Lynne A (Pariseau) Kavanagh and grew up around the US and world (born in Massachusetts, lived in Mississippi, California, Arizona, Germany, Spain, Alabama, Virginia and Florida).

Greg was a graduate of the Groton-Dunstable Class of 1991, where he was a 3 sport athlete and Co-Captain of the Crusader Basketball team. After High School, Greg studied history at Salem State and University of MA, Amherst, before working at Kimball Farm.

Greg felt compelled to serve his country as the third generation of Kavanagh in the US military. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 2000, became a flight line firefighter, graduating second in his class, and eventually earned the rank of Senior Airman (E-4), which he accomplished “Below the Zone.” Greg served several tours in the War on Terror in the Middle East including Operation Enduring Freedom where his unit saw combat action.

Upon returning to Groton from the service, Greg obtained a Massachusetts Real Estate license and worked at Keller Williams Realty beginning in 2007. He built his life around taking care of everyone he knew. He gave selflessly of his time and wealth and could frequently be found running errands, making hospital or pharmacy runs, helping with gardening, yard work, painting, pet-sitting and endless projects with which people needed help.  Perhaps most importantly he made time to be present with and truly communicate with others.

He was beloved by everyone he met for his vibrant engaging smile and warm demeanor. When he entered a room, the energy changed for the better and those who knew him are grateful for every moment we were able to spend with him. It has been said that no matter where he was it was the most important place in the world and though you might find yourself checking your watch for his arrival, the moment he got there you forgave him because you had just become the most important person in the world and it was always worth the wait.

Greg is survived by his parents, Dennis W and Lynne A (Pariseau) Kavanagh of Groton; Brother Brian D & Dena (Fazio) Kavanagh of Melrose; Brother Mark R & Mollie A (Hoffman) Kavanagh of Groton; Sister Meghan M Kavanagh of Quincy; Nephew Nathan and Niece McKenna Kavanagh of Groton; Partner Amy Graffum and her daughter Arden of Georgetown and countless lifelong and immediately fast friends and loving family members.

A celebration of life will be planned and held at a later date when circumstances will allow for the enormous group of those that loved him to participate and share stories.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Family Support (wwfs.org) or any charitable organization that you are passionate about, as Greg supported charity of every kind.
