G. Marilyn Airey

G. Marilyn Airey, 91, of Ayer, MA (formerly of Groton, MA) passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, surrounded by her large and loving family. Marilyn is survived by her son Jay Airey, (Cheryl) of W. Townsend MA, daughter Eileen (Airey) Couture, (Paul) of New Ipswich, NH, son Ron Airey, (Teresa) of Ashburnham, MA, daughter Susan (Airey) Jordan of Ashby, MA, and daughter Karen (Airey) Michalowski (Dave) of So. Deerfield, MA. She also leaves 23 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph James Airey, her daughter Jacquelyn (Airey) LaFlamme, son David E. Airey, and son-in-law, David Jordan.

Daughter of the late Walter & Grace (Donahue) Rierdan, Marilyn was born in Woburn and was a graduate of the Woburn High School Class of 1950. Marilyn married her high school sweetheart Joseph James “Jim” Airey and they started their family in Tewksbury, MA. They moved to the beautiful town of Groton, MA in 1965.

Early on, Marilyn worked at Nashoba Valley Hospital where she managed endowments and donations. Later she worked for years at the local Health Food market where she gained a life-long interest in nutrition, vitamins and eating healthy. The cupboards, packed with all her special vitamins, left little room for our drinking glasses. She had an interest in yoga and followed along with Maggie on PBS for years.

She was a member of the local bird watching club with her friend Dale. An avid reader, she read The Boston Globe every day and always had several books from the library. Her favorite genre was murder mysteries, and she would sit and read while her iPad played her favorite smooth jazz music.

Her large extended family and many friends were at the core of her life. She had a kind heart and never had a harsh word to say about anyone. She was a shining example for all of us to look up to as kids, growing up under her wing.

Family and close friends are welcome to join us in a celebration of life for Marilyn to be held Tuesday, December 17th at 1:00pm at The Old Mill Restaurant, 69 State Road East (Route 2A) Westminster, MA 01473.
