Frederic W. Halbritter, 86, of Concord, passed away on May 22, 2018 at the Care Dimensions Hospice Facility in Lincoln, MA after a short illness. Frederic was born in Boston, MA on December 24, 1931 the son of the late Edward N. Assad and Jessie Halbritter Assad. After high school Frederic joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Korean War. Frederic was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, with two Bronze Stars, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Following his military service, Frederic joined the Peace Corps, serving two tours in Africa, where he built schools for children. After the Peace Corps, Frederic became a bicycle enthusiast, biking to Florida from Massachusetts, as well as throughout New England. Frederic was a welder by trade, and created numerous metal sculptures. Frederic was past Post Commander of VFW Post #1628 Bedford, Adjutant of VFW Post #6556 Littleton, member of the American Legion, and member of Musketaquid Sportsmans Club.
Frederic is survived by sisters Pollie Dowling of Caringbah, Australia, and Barbara Avey of Groton, MA. He is also survived by Nieces Irene Flood, Catherine Keese, Jessy Dowling, Nerissa Dowling, and Nephew Frederic Avey.
At Fred’s request there will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be at the National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne, MA at a later date. The McGaffigan Funeral Home, 37 Main St. Pepperell, MA is assisting the family with arrangements.
