Eleanor Riggs Whitmore of Pepperell, age 77, passed away June 5, 2016, after a brief illness. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her children, Linda Whitmore of Pepperell, Steven Whitmore of Pepperell, Melissa Whitmore of Leominster, Jennifer Gardner of Natick, former son in law Scot Gardner of Pepperell and her widowed daughter in law Carolyn Whitmore as well as 8 grandchildren.
She is also survived by brother and sister in law, Ben and Carol Riggs, sister and former brother in law Esther and Roland Ferrera and many nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
She was predeceased by her parents Reverend Samuel Riggs and Mabel (Lohnes) Riggs, sister Florence Riggs Murphy and son Arthur Whitmore.
Eleanor worked for The Workshop for Learning Things in Watertown while living in Franklin, MA. After moving to Pepperell in 1979 she worked for the American Red Cross from the Concord office in charge of blood drives. Later, she was a Realtor with the Gosselin Group in Groton.
She sang with the Nashoba Chorale and served on the Pepperell Finance Committee from 1991 to 1996 and the Pepperell Board of Health from 1997 to 2000.
Her positive go-forward attitude, graciousness, and sense of humor made her a very popular personality with everyone who knew her. A memorial service will be held July 16, 2016 at 1pm at the Union Congregational Church 220 Main St. Groton.
