Edward F. Blanchard Jr., 70, of Groton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his wife and two daughters. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts on July 26, 1954, he was the son of the late Edward and Beverly (Heddericg) Blanchard, former proprietors of the Blanchard Funeral Chapel in Whitman, Massachusetts.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Deborah (Sutton) Blanchard; his daughter Jennifer Gorski, her spouse Kristine, and their children Kendall and Olivia; his daughter Sarah Mersereau, her spouse Eric, and their children Nick and Declan; his sister Jolene Tonello and her husband Bob of Whitman Massachusetts, his nephew Brian Tonello and family; his niece Brittany Tonello; and his cherished rescue dog, Minnie.
A 1972 graduate of Whitman Hanson High School, Edward discovered his life's calling when his Uncle Paul Blanchard introduced him to Grotonwood Camp in Groton, MA. He went on to serve as the camp's facility and maintenance director for 45 years, during which time he also became a licensed electrician. Throughout his tenure, Edward mentored countless staff members, instilling in them a deep respect for the campgrounds' beauty and heritage. His exceptional ability to repair virtually anything, his dedication during winter storms, and his signature humor—known as "Eddie B jokes"—became legendary among the camp community.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Littleton, Edward was an accomplished guitarist who shared his musical talents through the camp and church band "for Higher." His passion for music has left an indelible mark on his four grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Buppa" and marveled at his ability to fix anything that needed repair.
A Celebration of Life in memory of Edward will be held on Sunday, March 16th, 2025, from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Grotonwood Conference Center's Main Dining Hall, 167 Prescott Street, Groton, MA 01450. Friends and family are invited to share memories and stories of Edward's life, with refreshments to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grotonwood at https://grotonwood.org/support-us . If you still prefer checks please write them out to Grotonwood and specify: Blanchard Hall Upgrades.
