David L. Kopec Sr.

David Leo Kopec Sr. 74, of Westford, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on January 16, 2025, at Lowell General Hospital with loved ones by his side. David was born February 14, 1950 in Ayer, son of the late Edward and Mary (Fitzgerald) Kopec and brother to Joan and Edward Jr. 

David grew up attending Groton schools until he proudly served his country as a decorated Vietnam Marine Corps Veteran. Soon after he married his loving wife Sharon (Drew) Kopec and together they raised four boys, David Jr., and his partner Cynthia, James and his wife Christine, Jeffrey and fiancée Caitlin, and Joshua and his wife Joanna. David is survived by ten grandchildren: Jessie, Angela, Megan, Matthew, Jadyn, Camryn, Collin, Cora, Josie and Jordyn, along with many other nieces and nephews.

David retired as a welder from San-Vel. In his retirement he continued to stay in touch with his good friends, visiting them at VA’s and Legions, and was always a phone call away. Most of all, he was proud to be able to relax and watch his family grow.

Visiting hours for David will be held in the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Tuesday, January 28th from 4 – 8 pm. His memorial service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, January 29th at 10 am. Burial in Groton Cemetery with United States Marine Corps Funeral Honors will be held at a later date.
