Bernard Nelson Gray, a brilliant mind, devoted family man, and accomplished inventor, passed away peacefully February 21st of 2025 at the age of 86.

Born in 1938 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Bernard grew up in the vibrant neighborhood of Inman Square. He attended Rindge Latin School before furthering his education at Northeastern University. Bernard served in the Army, where he served with honor in the AMEDS (Army Medical and saw the world, Bernard embarked on a lifelong journey of scientific discovery and innovation.

A visionary in the field of medical technology, he invented the Electronic Spirometer, revolutionizing respiratory health monitoring. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Life Support Equipment (LSE), where he dedicated his career to advancing medical innovations that improved countless lives.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bernard was a master-level chess player, finding joy in the strategy and depth of the game. He was a lifelong lover of science, always eager to explore new ideas and expand his understanding of the world.

Bernard’s greatest love was his family. He was devoted to his wife, Jeanne McClatchy Gray of Arlington, MA, and took immense pride in their children: the late Bernard H. Gray, Jeanne Gray, Katherine Gray, Douglas Gray, and Daegan Gray. His generosity knew no bounds, and he cherished every moment spent with family, whether at large gatherings or in quiet moments of shared laughter and love.

Bernard’s legacy of intelligence, kindness, and generosity will live on in the lives he touched and the innovations he brought to the world. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
