Barry Reed Fuller, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at Nashoba Valley Medical Center Hospital in Ayer, MA on September 5th, 2023 after a period of declining health.
Barry was born on August 7th, 1939 on Martha’s Vineyard, MA, to the late Albert F. Fuller and late Elsa Horne.
Barry leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Fuller of Pepperell, MA, and five children: Cheryl Fuller Forster and husband Mark of Amherst, NH, Christine Fuller of Pepperell, MA, Robert Fuller and wife Sharon of Belmont, NC, Cathleen Fuller of N. Myrtle Beach, SC (formerly of Groton, MA), Donna Fuller Cross and husband Scott of Belmont, NC, brother Hal Hanna of Canton, MA, and brother Edward Hanna, of Reading PA. He was predeceased by a brother, William Fuller of Walla Walla, WA.
Barry also leaves behind 10 wonderful grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren: Peter and Patrick Forster, Heather and Theresa Fuller, Anna and Emily Rimkus, Zachary Fuller, Jessica Corrigan, Michelle Bukkhegyi, Dana Felix, Hatcher Kendzerski, Aiden and Austin Corrigan.
Barry graduated from Thompson Academy in Boston Harbor before enlisting in the US Coast Guard in 1958. After his military service, he was employed for many years as a mechanical engineer at GenRad Corporation (now Teradyne) in Concord, MA.
Barry served the residents of Pepperell for more than 40 years in numerous capacities of elected and volunteer offices. He served on the Board of Selectman and was chairman in 1996 and 1999. In 2003 he became a member of the Council on Aging board, and Friends of the Pepperell Seniors. Barry worked tirelessly as Chair of the Friends fundraising committee to raise $150,000 for furnishing the Albert Harris Senior Center in town.
Barry also received a citation from Massachusetts House of Representatives recognizing his successful efforts to save the Pepperell Paper Mill and 104 jobs.
Equally dedicated to scouting, Barry served Boy Scouts Pack 41 and held numerous offices in the Nashua Valley Council Executive Board. He extended his fundraising efforts to the Friends of Scouting program, and helped secure sustainability in the finances of the Council.
His many other interests included classic cars, metal detecting, and RV trips with Barbara and the grandchildren to see family and friends around the country.
Visiting hours will be held in the McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, 37 Main St., (Rte. 113) Pepperell, MA on Tuesday, September 19th
from 4 – 7 pm. Barry’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 777 West Hollis St., Nashua, NH on Wednesday, September 20th at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Pepperell Cemetery, Park Street, Pepperell, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Albert Harris Center, 37 Nashua Rd., Pepperell, MA 01463 or the
Toys for Tots Program.
