Ann Frances Alexander Horgan, one of the five Alexander girls born to Laura (Carroll) and Bill Alexander, died suddenly on Sunday, July 21st, 2024. Ann celebrated her 94th birthday with her large extended family three days before.
Ann grew up in West Lynn, MA, with extended family all around her. She graduated from St. Patrick’s Elementary School and St. Mary’s Girl High, Class of 1947. She met her husband Bill, a fellow West Lynner, and married in 1951. Bill predeceased Ann by 25 years. Ann and Bill had three children, Michael, who passed away in 2019, and Laurie and Bob. They shared five grandchildren, CJ Masiello and his wife Robyn; Greg Masiello and his wife Jen; Amanda Horgan; Alex Horgan and his wife Helena; and Robbie Horgan and his girlfriend Emma Manning. After Bill’s passing, Ann had four great-grandchildren, Jay, Bryant, Brian and Emily Masiello.
Ann spent her first 75 years in Lynn, and then moved to Pepperell to be near her daughter. Ann worked in the banking industry for over 25 years, starting at Essex County Bank. She was a member of St. Pius V Sodality, a Den Mother for her sons, ran 4th of July celebrations on Tracy Avenue, and as an avid walker, joined the 25 mile Walk for Hunger for many years.
Very active in her children’s lives, their friends became Ann’s lifelong friends. Michael’s rambunctious group of friends remained particularly close to her.
Ann leaves behind a well-loved group of friends and family, many nieces and nephews, cousins and godchildren. She leaves her daughter Laurie, her favorite and only son-in-law John Masiello; her son Bob, her favorite and only daughter-in-law Pam; her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves the members of The Nineties Club, having achieved admission to this exclusive club due to their longevity and strong genes: her sister Jo and her husband John Hardy, and her sister Shirley and her husband Bill DeRoche. Her older sister Rita and her husband Ed Wladkowski, and her sister Aurea and her husband Gene Horgan, all predeceased her. She also leaves behind her two caregivers, Colleen Peckham and Teresa Maillet. The family is grateful for the help, support and friendship these ladies gave to Ann each day.
Bridging her two addresses, family and friends are invited to a Celebratory Mass at 10 am on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024 at Our Lady of Grace Parish worshiping at St. Joseph Church, 28 Tarbell Street, Pepperell, MA. Burial will follow at 12:30pm at Pine Grove Cemetery, 145 Boston St., as the family travels to Lynn to bury Ann next to her husband in the family plot on Ulmus Avenue. Friends and family are invited to either event, and to a celebration to share happy memories of Ann at Spinelli’s, Route One South in Lynnfield at 1:30pm.
The family requests no flowers. Donations may be made in Ann’s memory to St. Mary’s High School, or to a cause near and dear to her heart, the American Diabetes Association in memory of her son, Michael J. Horgan.
Arrangements by McGaffigan Family Funeral Home, Pepperell.
